Divi 5 is the next evolution of Divi's visual builder, rebuilt from the ground up to be incredibly fast and infinitely capable, including a refreshed UI built for speed and efficiency. Divi 5 doesn't add new features (don't worry, those will come next) but instead focuses on the fundamentals, acting as a springboard to propel Divi into the future.
We learned a lot while developing Divi over the past decade. We've been sprinting forward for so long, but it was finally time to take a big step back and plan for the future. We completely rebuilt Divi's page builder from the ground up, resulting in a fast, lean, scalable builder made for the future of WordPress.
Divi 5 is very fast. Furthermore, it can handle large, complex designs with ease. You'll notice the lightning-fast speed right away! Divi 5 significantly improves front-end page speeds as well. Speed and scalability are two of Divi 5's core principles.
We completely changed our development strategy with Divi 5, building an API-first product that empowers our team to create new features that weren't possible in Divi 4 and grants those same powers to the entire Divi community. These aren't changes you can see visually, but behind the scenes, we are lighting the fire of innovation.
In our tests, Divi 5 is twice as fast as Divi 4 regarding front-end server rendering. The new architecture is much more efficient and built to never get bogged down no matter how many new features we add in the future.
Divi 5 is built to be future-proof. That means removing shortcodes and migrating to a modern storage format that shares much in common with WordPress's block editor. This allows for improved interplay between both editors, ensuring you won't miss out on the latest WordPress features.
Divi 5 is a vast project, and we know the community is chomping at the bit to get their hands on it. That's why we are releasing it in 5 phases. Early phases will be missing certain features, which will be filled incrementally. You can jump in and use Divi 5 at any point during the public alpha and beta if the missing features aren't something you miss.
We will release an official Divi 5 once all feedback from the public beta has been addressed. This will be available as a normal Divi Theme update in your WordPress dashboard.
The Public Beta will begin once all Divi features have been added to Divi 5 and all feedback from the Alpha has been addressed. This will be the finished version of Divi 5, pending any bug fixes found during the Beta.
The Public Alpha will be a Divi 5 "lite" that is fully functioning but lacking certain features and modules. It will be suitable for building new sites and testing, but it will only be suitable for use on some existing Divi sites due to its lack of features.
The Dev Beta introduced a finished version of the Divi 5 API allowing developers to start updating their extensions early, way before the official Divi 5 release.
The Developer Alpha release gave developers a glimpse into the future of Divi 5 so that they could start planning how to adapt their existing Divi extensions.
We want to provide the community with as much information as possible about the current state of Divi 5. We give monthly updates on our progress and cover various topics related to Divi 5.

We're still putting the final touches on Divi 5. There are things to improve, bugs to fix, and missing features to add. However, we want to be as transparent as possible about our progress and invite everyone to test the current build. We update the demo every two weeks, and you can follow our progress!
Absolutely not! Divi 5 will be a free upgrade for all Divi customers, including Divi Lifetime customers.
Updating from Divi 4 to Divi 5 will be a smooth transition. We are taking great care to ensure Divi 5 is bug-free before it is released, thanks to the 5-phase release plan. Furthermore, we are maintaining backward compatibility for Divi 4 modules.
The unsatisfying answer to this question is that "it will be ready when it's ready." The pressure is on, and we are working as hard as we can to get Divi 5 finished as soon as possible. But you won't need to wait for the final version of Divi 5 to use it, thanks to our five-phase release schedule.
Divi 5 is a massive investment in our future success. You must take a few steps back every once in a while before taking giant leaps forward. With Divi 5, we are pausing new features and focusing on building a foundation that will serve our community for years.
Furthermore, we built Divi 5 to give our team the tools to develop new features that were impossible in Divi 4 and create them much faster. Once Divi 5 is released, we will make all the vital features we know you need.
We have also been working with creators from the Divi community over the past year, granting them early access to Divi 5 so they have ample time to transition their modules to the new format.
Divi 5 will be a standard Divi update in the WordPress dashboard. After you update to Divi 5, you will click a button to initiate a conversion process that will transition pages built with Divi 4 to the new Divi 5 format.
