Have you ever considered something other than ChatGPT as your main AI tool? It’s been over a year with this revolutionary technology, but plenty of other high-quality solutions are out there. Whether looking for a simple ChatGPT replacement or a full-fledged competitor, this article covers all the major options. We’ll show you all the best ChatGPT alternatives, giving you the knowledge to help you choose the one that meets your needs.
Why Use Something Other Than ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is an AI-based chatbot platform by OpenAI (the ones behind OpenAI playground). The popular AI chatbot was designed to interact with people and provide helpful responses to queries. It can understand and respond to users with uncanny accuracy and conversational fluidity. It was the first tool of its kind to land on the market in late 2022, and because of that, over 100 million people use it weekly for personal productivity.
ChatGPT Has Limitations
As good as ChatGPT is, it does have certain limitations that have people looking for additional tools to streamline their workflows. Here are a few limitations of ChatGPT that may cause users to look for alternatives.
- Some users have noticed a decrease in reasoning power from the tool, citing that ChatGPT is getting lazy
- ChatGPT can be overconfident and cover up its hallucinations (although the newer version of ChatGPT shows improvement)
- It isn’t specialized enough for writing and marketing tasks
- The price point of $20 per month for a consumer tool is too high for premium features
- ChatGPT lacks first-party connectivity to popular web apps, requiring 3rd party extensions to get AI in the tools they use
- Copyright concerns where intellectual property may be used in the text that is generated in conversations
Luckily, ChatGPT isn’t the only AI tool doing amazing things for consumers.
Several competitors are creating unique products and experiences. Some extend beyond the capabilities of ChatGPT, offering more niche generative AI solutions for various tasks. These platforms use similarly trained AI models to provide conversational experiences for users via an approachable chat interface.

The Best Chatgpt Alternatives Listed In Order
1. Chatsonic
🥇 Best for Content Writing
Chatsonic, built by Writesonic, is one of the best ChatGPT alternatives for business users. It is an AI-powered chatbot (and AI writing tool) that utilizes interlaced LLMs to create responses fit for writers and marketers. It’s built specifically with writers in mind and provides users with suggestions for sentence structure, tone, and word choice to create high-quality content with greater efficiency.
Workhorse AI for Writers
Chatsonic is a different way for Writesonic users to generate helpful content for their marketing needs. Follow-up prompts can refine any previous response it gave in the conversation. This is great for the AI to progressively create something specific for a particular use case. Once users get a response they love, they can send it directly to a Writesonic document to work on further (or push it to your website or social channels via its integrations).
What We Like About Chatsonic
- Internet Access: Toggle internet access on or off based on chat requirements to get live data from Google Searches.
- Personality: Set the personality to change the tone and style using an easy-to-use drop-down menu.
- Voice Interaction: Chat using text inputs or opt for hands-free interactions with voice commands.
- Custom Training Data: Load custom training data (memories) for Chatsonic to create better content for you.
- AI Image Generator: Utilize Chatsonic’s AI image generator to create visuals directly in the chat.
- Share Conversations: Share conversations with friends and co-workers with a simple URL link.
- Upload Files: Attach web URLs, images, and files in your chat questions for it to analyze and reply based on.
See our full reviews for Writesonic, Photosonic, and Chatsonic.
What Could Be Improved
- Cluttered User Interface: The user interface is crowded, which can overwhelm users and detract from an efficient writing experience.
- Credit System is a little confusing: The way they do credits (Premium and Supreme) is not as straightforward as we’d hoped. Every 100 Superior words equals 300 Premium words.
🥇 Why We Picked It
Chatsonic tops our list because it struck while the iron was hot and released features quicker than ChatGPT. You could interact with it via voice commands, had access to real-time data from the internet, and could be customized with memories well before ChatGPT Plus released these features. Because of this, its users used advanced features for longer. Whether they can keep up the pace with ChatGPT into the future is still to be determined. What puts Chatsonic over the edge for us is its free monthly credits that are usable with Chatsonic AND Writesonic, one of the best AI writing tools.
All this power in one platform is ample reason to try it out.
Who Is Chatsonic Best For?
Chatsonic is best for those looking for a dedicated ChatGPT replacement and wouldn’t mind having a full suite of AI writing tools along with it. With it, you would have an integrated AI writer, AI photo generator, and chat interface, meaning you can customize all three tools. If you write professional content and want a best-in-class AI chat experience, you will love Chatsonic + Writesonic.
Community Reviews and Ratings
The community highly rates Chatsonic because of its ease of use and connectivity with the rest of Writesonic’s tools. People frequently note that they can work on new ideas faster with Chatsonic. For those churning out high volumes of written work, people seem to agree that Writesonic is well worth the investment.
Pricing
Offers a free plan with monthly credits. Paid plans start at only $13 per month.
2. Perplexity AI
🥈 Best for Research
Perplexity AI is a search-focused AI chatbot that helps users find the best information across the internet. All it takes to use it is to provide it with a question or search term. From there, it answers and lists its sources and related images to your prompt. This is like getting a news or research brief on the topic you entered.
The AI Information Dashboard
Perplexity is all about surfacing information. It does this, obviously, through its chat functionality. But it also has features here and there to find interesting things. Its “Discover” tab helps you find new and trending answers (what it calls “threads“) that have gathered popularity from other users. At the bottom of its answers, it also shows related prompts that will take you down a rabbit trail of your choosing.
What We Like About Perplexity AI
- Mobile App: The Perplexity AI chatbot has a mobile app that lets users access its capabilities on the go. This app is designed with a user-friendly interface that makes engaging with the chatbot enjoyable.
- Information-Based Searching: It empowers users to search for precise information. Unlike traditional search engines, Perplexity AI’s chatbot understands the context of queries and delivers answers that are relevant and enriched with depth and accuracy.
- Discover Feed: The Discover Feed feature enhances user engagement by showcasing a curated list of topics. Each entry in the feed comes with views, shares, and “liked” count statistics, allowing users to gauge the popularity and relevance of the information presented. Each item in the discovery tab is a sharable Perplexity chat with the answer already written out.
- Search Modes: Choose between Internet, Academic, Wolfram Alpha, YouTube, Reddit, News, and Wikipedia modes to get information from the sources you are interested in. This makes it malleable enough to find information that matters to you.
- Coding with Online Sources: Perplexity has some ability to code using its LLMs, but what makes it unique is the online research side of the platform. It can look into Stack Exchange and GitHub repos to find user-created solutions and tailor them to your use case.
What Could Be Better
- Limited Uses: Because of the use cases for which it was made, Perplexity might be perplexed with non-fact-based prompts and questions. Since it focuses on search, it also doesn’t hold a conversation with multiple back-and-forth responses like ChatGPT would (unless upgraded to Pro with “CoPilot” turned on). For those reasons, though, it is a refreshing take and makes it a decent ChatGPT dupe.
- Similarly, Priced: Perplexity’s pricing model is the same as ChatGPT’s, which makes it a little less competitive. At least it isn’t more expensive.
🥈 Why We Picked It
Perplexity AI doesn’t try to be a copycat of ChatGPT. Plenty of competitors are trying to do similar things with their proprietary technologies. Perplexity leverages its technologies in an excellent way for finding and digesting information. It doesn’t have the same back-and-forth conversation flow as other tools (except with Pro’s CoPilot), which focuses the user on the summary it provides. This works well for it because the content is well-written and well-sourced. Perplexity’s risk of hallucination is much lower because it only creates a short brief on your topic instead of an endless stream of text.
Who Is Perplexity AI Best For?
When we used Perplexity, it felt more like getting a single-page brief on the topic we were interested in. This made the results feel more substantial and authoritative. Ideally, users and subscribers of Perplexity would love research and would want a better way to dig into topics as they come to mind (and through the Discover feed). Perplexity might be an interesting thing to try out if your job involves research, like ours.
If you want to know more, read our review article about Perplexity AI.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Perplexity has a cult following of information and research nerds. Its focus on surfacing information (instead of spitting words out) differs greatly from most other AI chatbots on this list. Its users love using it, and many have found that it is the best tool for finding information across the web.
Pricing
Perplexity AI offers a free search experience with limited features. Perplexity offers a Pro subscription plan to unlock file uploads and more powerful AI models, starting at $20 per month.

- Send Chat Responses to a Document: When your chat gives you a killer response, Jasper makes sending it to a document easy.
- Trained on Marketing Content: Jasper uses in-house proprietary LLMs specifically for marketing content (while also integrating other advanced LLMs from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic).
- Brand Voice: Jasper has a brand voice library where it learns about your business and how you speak, which is reflected in Chat responses.
- Create Images: When asked, Jasper can create images for your marketing campaigns directly from the chat interface.
What Could Be Improved
- Input character limits: Jasper Chat inputs may only be as long as 4,000 characters, which gets used quickly with long and advanced prompts.
- Pricing Flexibility: Additional premium plans or a limited free plan could accommodate smaller businesses and users.
🥉 Why We Picked It
Jasper AI makes it high on this list because of its innovative approach to AI-driven content creation, catering to a wide range of needs for professionals. It has specifically developed tools useful for entire teams, not just individuals. Jasper has also stayed on pace with new feature development to be one of the best AI conversational chat solutions. We’ve written a dedicated Jasper Review article for those looking for more in-depth details about Jasper and what it’s best for.
Who is Jasper AI Best For?
Jasper AI is a boon for content creators looking for a smart, efficient way to produce SEO-optimized content. It’s perfect for marketers, bloggers, and businesses seeking to increase their digital presence. Jasper is suited exceptionally well for marketing teams that create high amounts of output. Jasper Chat is only one of several pieces of the Jasper ecosystem worth using.
Community Reviews and Ratings
The community has long enjoyed using Jasper AI. It scores high marks for its innovative features and efficiency. Reviewers frequently mention its user-friendly interface and high-quality content output.
Pricing
There are no free plans. Paid plans start at $49 per month.
4. Claude
Claude is a noteworthy ChatGPT alternative because of its remarkable similarity to ChatGPT. It offers many of the same features but has chosen to specialize in a few areas where ChatGPT (even Plus) falls short. Notably, it sports a massive (comparatively) context window from prompts and uploaded documents. Other than that, it tries to do what ChatGPT does but with its own in-house developed technologies. If you were nervous about OpenAI’s world domination, Claude is something to look into.
Claude’s Context Window
Claude’s ability to process and analyze vast textual data has been astounding since Claude 2 was released. This includes its ability to digest live web pages and diverse file formats. This capability not only aids in summarizing content but also in extracting and answering specific data points, a task where it outshines many of its counterparts, including ChatGPT. Additionally, its integration into popular communication tools like Slack brings convenience and accessibility to AI-powered content creation and interaction.
Regarding ease of use, Claude has an intuitive text-based interface that makes conversing with it very natural. You can ask it questions or give it instructions, just like chatting with a human. It also integrates nicely into apps like Slack, allowing you to get assistance right within your workflow. Claude has fewer customization tools than ChatGPT, which could be a downside. It also makes managing past conversations (especially deleting them) more complicated than its rivals.
What We Like About Claude
- Extensive Text Processing: Handles over 75,000 words of context effortlessly, significantly expanding what users can do with it.
- Upload Files: Can summarize and query data from various file types and web content.
- Detailed, Accurate Responses: Sources information from websites rather than guessing, leading to higher quality and factual answers.
- Upgraded Performance: Faster and more reliable than Claude 1.0 and Chat GPT 3.5 Turbo.
- Advanced Math/Coding/Logic Skills: It is better able to help with technical queries and write functioning code compared to other AI assistants.
- Beautifully Displays Code: Code is elegantly displayed, and when referencing specific parameters or selectors, it’ll show those prominently in another color for clarity.
What Could Be Improved
- Limited Availability: Currently only available in the US and UK, expanding internationally would benefit more users.
- Pricing Transparency: Lacks transparent pricing and usage limits for its free and pro versions, making it difficult to decide which one to purchase.
- Limited Free Version: Instead of only having time and resources-based throttles, the free version can close a conversation once it has gotten too long. This means all the context you’ve built up is frozen in the chat. ChatGPT, on the other hand, often throttles usage but lets you return to your conversations after a set time.
Who Is Claude Best For?
Claude is ideal for developers, writers, students, researchers, and anyone needing help digesting long form content, getting quick answers to factual questions, assisting with technical problems, writing, basic math, and other analytical tasks. Its expansive context window and ease of use make it a valuable tool for anyone seeking to streamline data analysis and content generation.
Community Reviews and Ratings
People are pleased with it, first because Claude often sounds more natural and isn’t riddled with all the “AI Tells” that ChatGPT is known for. Secondly, for its increased context window.
Pricing
Free to use with a $20 per month Pro Plan, which increases limits and provides early access to new features.
5. Bard
Google’s Bard is an advanced conversational AI chatbot using state-of-the-art LLMs to respond to diverse inquiries in real time. It shares many similarities with ChatGPT, but its approach is quite different. Bard uses multiple AI models to respond with code, images, and prose. It also has a remarkable ability to cite its sources from Google Search results.
Citing Sources with More Trustworthiness
What we love most about Bard is its ability to cite its work. It seems more advanced than Microsoft Bing’s citation capabilities and is far better than what ChatGPT can do. With Bard’s recent Gemini update (a new, multimodel AI), it is much faster while providing more complex and reasoned responses. It also offers practical tools to combat hallucinations and false facts. Using the “Double-Check Response” button for any output will make Bard compare its response to Google search results. It then highlights its text in Green or Red. Green means that it found similar content published on the web, and Red means that statements differ from published content (or that it could not find a match either way). It’s not a foolproof method for fact verification, but it works particularly well for crowdsourcing information.
Google Bard’s user interface is straightforward to navigate, and the design is better than ChatGPT’s bare-bones interface. It offers helpful, quick actions to modify responses, which ChatGPT does not do (shorten, sound more professional, etc.). Its dark mode is also easy to toggle on, which makes it look great. For those interested in learning more about Bard, we created a detailed guide on using Bard for you.
What We Like About Bard
- Google Search Integration: Bard seamlessly connects with various Google services (Google Search, Flights, Maps, YouTube, Workspace, etc.), enhancing live data access.
- Code Writing: With Bard’s Gemini update, it is exceptional at writing well-optimized code in multiple programming languages.
- Image Generation: Ability to upload images in chat prompts and ask Bard to generate new photos as responses. Bard uses the incredibly advanced Imagen 2 model to create its images.
- Response Drafts: Offers multiple versions or “Drafts” of its responses. See what it has to say differently in these other versions.
- Voice Command and Audio Playback: Supports voice commands and offers audio playback of responses, making it accessible and user-friendly.
- Quick Prompt Modifications: Quick Actions for shortening, elongating, and making explanations simpler, casual, or professional.
- Double Check with Google Search: Easy fact-checking using the Google Search “Double-Check” button.
What Could Be Improved
- Conversation Organization: Currently, there’s no feature for organizing past conversations with folders or tags, limiting your management of previous interactions. ChaGPT and others have this same problem.
- Limited Upload Capabilities: Bard does not support uploading custom data or non-image files like code snippets or PDFs, though it allows for image uploads for reference purposes.
- No Chatbot Customization: Bard currently has no features that match ChatGPT’s “Custom GPTs” for tailoring different types of interactions with it.
Who is Bard Best For?
Bard is best suited for people who want a more AI-driven approach to researching live data. Bard’s responses with real-time data from Google tend to be more in-depth than ChatGPT 4’s API requests to Bing searches. Bard also excels in things other LLMs have trouble with, such as citing sources and completing math problems. It’s also free to use with no “advanced” features that are locked behind a paywall. This makes Bard more affordable than ChatGPT Plus.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Bard saves people time by answering their questions with the ability to double-check facts. Many people have noted that it has become as capable as ChatGPT.
Pricing
It is free to use for everyone with a Google Account. You must enable Beta features in your account.
6. Bing AI
Microsoft Bing AI is a conversational AI assistant infused with live search results. Users can use Bing AI directly in the Bing search engine (much like Google’s SGE) and will provide responses based on web results. Bing’s answers come from live data from Bing search results but are presented conversationally (matching your query or prompt). Bing is an interesting ChatGPT competitor due to its close partnership with OpenAI and its deep usage of its technology. But it has put its spin on virtually every aspect and makes a compelling replacement for ChatGPT for many users.
Bing Chat is Powerful If a Little Cluttered
Bing was one of the first leading AI chatbots that included citations to its sources. In this way, it was an early trendsetter for AI transparency. Other tools have quickly followed suit.
Unfortunately, Bing AI works best with the Microsoft Edge browser and has only recently been allowed access for Chrome users. Its UI is, by far, the most cluttered of comparable AI chat interfaces and looks very Microsoft-like. Bing Chat is available both in search results and in a dedicated chat interface, which makes it malleable to various workflows and preferences.
For those interested in this unique service, we have a complete guide on how to use Miscrosfot’s Bing AI chat.
What We Like About Bing AI
- Source Citation: Bing AI uniquely cites its sources, providing footnotes and hyperlinks for credibility and easy reference.
- Personalized Recommendations: Offers tailored suggestions based on user data, enhancing the relevance of responses.
- Voice Commands: Supports voice commands, adding convenience and accessibility to user interactions.
- Adjustable Conversation Style: Users can select from various conversation styles like creative, balanced, and precise, suiting different needs and preferences.
- Service Integration: Integrates with popular services like Kayak, Instacart, and Klarna, enriching data and expanding functionality.
- Fast Follow-up: Provides automatic follow-up questions to click on to drill down into more specific details or tangents quickly.
What Could Be Improved
- Cluttered UI: The current interface is crowded, with the chat box, content citations (and underlining), feedback requests, feature promotions, and account badges all vying for space.
- History Feed: Recent Bing searches clutter the chat history feed, which makes finding past chat interactions challenging. It could use a toggle to remove Search interactions from history.
- Feature Overlap Across Products: There is noticeable redundancy in features across various Microsoft products, including Bing Search, Bing AI, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Windows 11 Copilot, leading to potential confusion about Microsoft’s AI features across products. This is mildly alleviated when purchasing Copilot Pro, which gives extended access to all of these (not GitHub Copilot, though).
Who is Bing AI Best For?
If you use Microsoft Edge and you’re looking for richer search results, using Bing AI as your search engine would benefit you. Notably, people who love and exclusively use Bing Search (as opposed to Google) will find these features valuable additions to the Bing experience. Users of ChatGPT Plus will notice a remarkable overlap of features (due to their partnership) that might make Bing AI a worthy replacement.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Bing AI users love using it while they search the web. Users have found it easy to use and appreciate that it provides reliable sources. People have noticed repetitive-sounding responses, but other than that, it’s accurate and reasonably fast.
Pricing
Free to use with a connected Microsoft account or $20 per month for CoPilot Pro.
7. Github CoPilot
CoPilot is a different kind of ChatGPT alternative for developers. It’s an AI code assistant by Github that helps developers write code more efficiently. The platform uses OpenAI’s Codex and other advanced technologies to understand and analyze code, providing real-time suggestions and predictions to help developers write code faster and with fewer errors. It’s similar to other products like Amazon CodeWhisperer.
Pair Programming with a Tireless AI Companion
CoPilot auto completes code based on contextual understanding, meaning it can try filling in the gaps in your work as you code. When a developer starts typing a code snippet, CoPilot analyzes the codebase and suggests relevant code completions that fit the current context. This can help to reduce errors and speed up the coding process significantly—especially for repeatable tasks that follow a structured workflow.
CoPilot makes it super convenient to use by seamlessly integrating it into your preferred IDE through plugins and extensions. You can enjoy its assistance while using Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, and Neovim—no need to switch between different tools. Since it embeds into the tools you already use, the UI is very natural and doesn’t demand you make significant trade-offs to use the technology.
What We Like About CoPilot
- AI-Powered Chat Assistance: Chat with AI for insightful suggestions and detailed explanations for your questions.
- Supports Various Languages: Accommodates many programming languages, including Python, JavaScript, Ruby, C++, and more.
- Contextual Code Analysis: Offers advanced analysis of code context, helping find more accurate and relevant solutions.
- IDE Integration: Seamlessly integrates with several popular Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) and code editors.
- Large Codebases: Efficiently supports working within large codebases.
- Autocomplete Suggestions: Provides real-time coding suggestions and autocomplete features, significantly speeding up the coding process and reducing errors.
What Could Be Improved
- Enhanced Context Understanding: As language models evolve, there’s an increasing expectation for more advanced capabilities, including a deeper understanding of code context. Copilot could benefit from improvements in comprehending and handling extensive code contexts.
- Optimized Code Generation Speed: The speed at which Copilot generates code can sometimes lag, especially when quick output is needed. Reducing wait times for AI-generated code would enhance productivity and keep distractions at bay.
Who Is Copilot is Best For?
CoPilot is extremely helpful for developers of all stripes and experience levels. It’s useful for solo developers, indie hackers, large development studios, and SaaS operations. In fact, we use Copilot at Elegant Themes to help us build Divi and connected products.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Most people have said that pairing programming with AI takes time to get used to. The initial impulse is to have it do everything for you. Once expectations are set with users, they have said that they save a lot of time by using AI on tasks that are reasonable for the AI to handle. They also love the creative ideas it can produce, making finding solutions more accessible.
Pricing
Plans start at $10 for individuals and $19 per month per user for teams.
8. You.com
You.com is another AI-powered chatbot and search assistant that lets you ask and find any information you want. Users can search using natural language inputs and receive results in a conversational format. It’s a clean and easy-to-use replacement for OpenAI’s chat tool. You.com’s focus is on user privacy with search data.
Customizable Chatbot Experience for Search
Users can access You.com through a web browser, browser extension, and mobile apps. A big part of You.com is its apps, which connect to different websites and services that supply raw data for the AI to use in its responses. This makes it a very customizable platform by letting you connect sources that interest you. You.com allows Pro users to switch between AI models for a custom experience.
YouChat can provide citations for its answers, making it useful for research and fact-checking. This is done by incorporating information from reputable sources and providing links to those sources in response to user queries. Additionally, YouChat provides snippets of information and key facts to answer user queries, making it fast and efficient.
What We Like About You.com
- App Integration: Integration with 150+ apps for various niches and domains.
- Source Citation: Cites the sources it uses using hyperlinked footnotes in its responses.
- AI Personalization: Ability to personalize the AI by giving details about you and what you typically work on (just like Custom Instructions with ChatGPT).
- UI Quality: Offers a clean and inviting chat interface that is a pleasure to use (the opposite experience of Bing AI).
- AI-Generated Images: Creates AI-generated images using Stable Diffusion XL.
- Educational Discounts: Offers academic discounts for students and teachers. They are applied on top of prices already better than ChatGPT Plus.
- Chrome Extension: Gives users the power of You Chat on any page (much like Edge’s Copilot, only with an extension).
- Privacy Focused: You.com is very concerned about user privacy. It helps that it isn’t owned by one of the major tech companies.
What Could Be Improved
- Search Visibility: Since it is a search engine replacement, it would be nice to know why You.com chooses its sources (whereas search engines show you search results in ranked order).
Who is You.com Best For?
You.com is best suited for anyone looking for a conversational and intuitive way to search the internet and get information. It can benefit individuals who prefer a natural language presentation of data compared to traditional search result pages. In addition to search tools, it has versions of its chatbot specifically for studying, writing, and improving images.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Not many people have publicly reviewed You.com. Be among the first to leave your detailed thoughts on a review site.
Pricing
Free for basic LLM and limited image generation. You Pro costs $14.99 per month for unlimited GPT-4 and Stable Diffusion XL access.
9. Character AI
This alternative is a little more fun. Character AI is an AI-powered chat platform that lets users choose from various virtual characters. These characters have distinct personalities, memories, interests, and conversational styles set by the character’s creator (like a personality-based Custom GPT). Popular characters include Einstein for science questions, Socrates for philosophy discussions, Trip Planner to help organize travel, and Fitness & Meditation Coach for health and wellness advice.
Best for Interesting Conversations
Over time and multiple conversations, the characters adapt to user preferences to offer an increasingly interesting chat experience. The easy-to-use chat interface makes engaging with the various characters highly intuitive. Character AI is unique because it focuses on sharing pre-made characters from other community users and letting you create your own. This means that the UI focuses on showing you different available characters to chat with.
There’s more to Character AI than meets the eye. We’ve written an extensive article for those wanting a detailed review of Character AI.
What We Like About Character AI
- Unique Virtual Characters: Distinct characters create enjoyable conversations with unexpected personalities.
- Advanced Character Customization: Custom GPT functionality allows users to create characters that match their conversation goals.
- Image Creation: Create images (even with free accounts) and use them in chat conversations.
- Voice Commands and Prompts: Speak with a character using a microphone for more fluid conversations (however, it doesn’t respond via voice like ChatGPT).
What Could Be Improved
- Tons of Characters to Search Through: Since Character.ai tries to surface many of the most widely used characters, people have created many niche characters that most people would never use. Finding your ideal characters might mean making your own or searching (and trying) dozens of previously created ones.
- Not the Best Chat UI: The actual chat interface isn’t the best-looking and doesn’t have many extra features.
- Spammy Chatbots: Since users create chatbots, there are many spammy chatbots to wade through (like the infamous Girlfriend GPTs).
Who Is Character AI Best For?
Character AI is ideal for anyone seeking entertaining conversations and helpful advice from virtual companions tailored to topics like science, travel, health/wellness, and more. The customizable characters make it engaging for social chatting and accessing specialized knowledge.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Character.ai also doesn’t have a ton of reviewers online. Share your experience with others on a review site. Some people have noted that there is a particular culture on the platform and that it can be a turn-off for some.
Pricing
The free version of Character AI provides access to core chat functionalities. Character AI+ can be purchased for $9.99 per month.
10. Poe
Poe is a unique ChatGPT stand-in that allows users to access multiple LLMs from other companies. In addition to GPT 4, users can access Playground, Claude, Mistrial, and Gemini. This makes it useful for those looking to access various LLMs and AI technology created by big players such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
What sets Poe apart from many other options on this list is that it is creator-centric. They’ve built a platform that rewards creators of custom bots (prompt-based and server-based bots). Building bots with Poe is a lot like creating GPTs with ChatGPT. It’s notably different because creators can monetize their Bots on the platform. It’s a way to keep creators and developers engaged enough to make the best AI bots and apps instead of relying solely on personal projects to create cool things.
It offers a clear and easy-to-use chat experience without adding too much clutter. It gives users many options over how they like to use the platform.
What We Like About Poe
- Diverse Bots: Access to hundreds of valuable bots that Poe and community developers created.
- Multiple LLM Integration: Has access to numerous Large Language Models like PaLM, Gemini, GPT-4-32K, Claude-Instant, Claude-2 100k, Playground, and more.
- Web-Search Bot: It has a “Web-Search” bot that scours the web for the best information to answer your queries.
- Free Basic Model Access: Free usage for more basic models and limited use to AI image generators and Claude-instant-100k.
- Cross-Platform Usability: Ability to use Poe in a browser or with mobile and desktop apps.
- See Usage Limits: In the settings tab, Poe shows exactly what credits you have available and when the credits reset.
What Could Be Better
- UI Time Format: Quirky UI choices, like displaying chat history time in 24-hour format.
- Content Filtering: No ability to filter away or hide NSFW bots by creators.
Who is Poe Best For?
Poe is best for those who want access to multiple AI chatbots in one place. It is an excellent ChatGPT alternative for those seeking a marketplace of prompt-based bots perfectly dialed in by experts for various use cases. Also, if you have a knack for creating useful bots, you can be rewarded handsomely for your effort.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Poe is also light on online reviews. Leave your thoughts and opinions on a review site to help others. The potential for making money with AI from creating useful prompt-based bots has a lot of people interested in the platform.
Pricing
Generous free plan with unlimited usage of some models and limited access to premium models. The paid Poe plan starts at $19.99 per month.

Who is Elsa Best For?
Non-native English speakers who want to improve their knowledge and use of English benefit from using Elsa. It’s better than ChatGPT because even though ChatGPT Plus has voice interactions, it does not correct your pronunciation; it’ll simply try its best to understand and respond to you. Elsa can handle this very well.
Community Reviews and Ratings
Most people enjoy using Elsa for learning and perfecting their English. There is no substitute for speaking a language and getting direct feedback, which is what Elsa specializes in. Sometimes, users are annoyed when they are pretty sure that their pronunciation was correct, but Elsa marked it wrong, which can be frustrating.

Overall, AI and LLMs are quickly becoming mainstays for internet users of all types. It’s good to know there are alternatives and new ways of using AI for every aspect of our lives.
Bing AI chat can also be used to make images, it’s not mentioned anywhere on it’s section but it gives you an example by saying ‘ask me to draw a pikachu’ and if you prompt it do so it does. It’ll only be able to follow the prompts to a degree and won’t exactly be able to follow all very specific details or long descriptions, but still does a pretty good job using simple prompts in different ways. Not sure how in depth other drawing AI alternatives are if you could specify little details that they’d get, but the biggest detriment Bing’s has is that there’s a safeguard in place so you can’t have too graphic of an image etc. I know there’s ones out there that must not have this as the whole thing with Loab types of images I saw back whenever but I still prompted around the keywords to get some darker images out of bing lol.
Yeah, Bing and Microsoft Copilot have decent image-generation options. Obviously, ChatGPT Plus uses Dalle-3, and Bard uses its Imagen 2. There are a lot of base technologies and even more API services stemming from those to create and edit images.
Hi, I have 1.2 million legal text documents in my website. What do I do to use Artificial Intelligence on them? Thank you
Ricardo, it depends on what you want to do with them. You may look at creating a Custom GPT with ChatGPT Plus and adding the text files to that. Or you can use website chatbots if you want other people to have open access to chat with your vast library of legal documents. In that case, you could look at Chatbase or something similar.
While there are many language models available, Utopia P2P ChatGPT assistant stands out due to its emphasis on privacy and security. Unlike other language models, Utopia P2P ChatGPT assistant uses a peer-to-peer network, which means that data is not stored on centralized servers that can be hacked or accessed by third parties.
That client-to-client aspect is interesting. There have been a lot of alternative chat solutions to hit the market with a focus on greater security and privacy, that’s for sure. Thanks Alisson.
