Let’s Welcome Our New Meetup Groups
Please give a warm welcome to our new hosts! August brought us two more Meetup groups, and one new assistant organizer. We’re thrilled to introduce you to the hosts.
See below for introductions (in the host’s own words) and info on their next Meetups.
Meet the host, Vivek Dhandha:
I am 46, Entrepreneur & IT professional from Gujarat (India) currently based in Navsari. I love everything that has to do with Web design & development, Graphic design, Project management, Business managing, and Computer Networking. I feel strongly devotional to concept implementation.
Part of [the] up and down in life base knowledge stream doesn’t go away. The Wide career path starting from IT born to such a massive expanded current market, feeling strongly to perform for any industry-based IT verticals.
[I want to] help the customers already using the Divi theme or planning to have a website with it.
They got right on it and already had their first event! Be sure to join the group if you’re in the Gujarat area!
Divi Lyon, France
Meet the host, Stéphane Goncalves:
My name is Stéphane Goncalves, I’m 25 years old and I’m a director and partner of the company Cogito Strategy. Before coming here, I worked for 4 years as a freelancer without any resources and knowledge at the beginning. I was able to train myself to develop all the necessary knowledge to succeed in today’s web business while continuing my studies in digital marketing and web strategy. I met beautiful people, professional, joyful and making me want to continue my adventure. I also met many obstacles and failures that I don’t regret at all because they are the essence of my successes. Never give up is my motto. There is no age to succeed, the only condition is to believe in oneself and to recover even after heavy failures. I have been using Divi for over a year now with my partners and collaborators in the agency, thanks to DIVI we can express our creativity, save time and offer premium content to our clients and web enthusiasts. Today, being a partner of Meetups with DIVI is an obvious choice! We wish to make our international community benefit from this indispensable tool and train them to use it in their own structure or simply for passionate personal use.
I really want our community to benefit from DIVI as a tool to show them all the wonderful things that can be done. We want to train them on the tool, explain all the tricks we’ve all learned as we use it. The objective is to offer adapted, professional and beautiful content, that’s exactly what DIVI allows us to do and that’s also our main mission.
They just got up and running. Be on the lookout for their first event!
Divi Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, USA
Meet the host, Kent Pilkington:
I am an artist by passion and a technologist by training. I have a BA in Computer Science from Baylor, as well as an MBA in eCommerce. I’ve spent over 20 years in software engineering and web design, and have performed a wide range of roles in the design and implementation process. Over the past 5 years, my work has largely focused on WordPress, Woocommerce, and Divi.
I come from a family of teachers and educators. Sharing what we learn is part of my personality and a social responsibility value. But, from an entirely selfish perspective, I also enjoy public speaking, it looks good on a resume, and it’s good exposure as an expert in the field.
Kent is joining the already established Divi DFW team. Do check them out!
Updates from Existing Groups
Our Divi Meetup communities rounded out the summer with their events even though summer months are a bit rough with attendance. During these times of vacation and downtime, we find hosting Summer Socials in lieu of the traditional meetup format works quite well. Instead of the usual energy of finding a speaker and the whole nine yards, plan a simple time of shooting the breeze and getting to know each other. A group could have the event meet up at a restaurant with a large outdoor patio. Everyone can grab themselves some eats and drinks or, you can enlist a sponsor to grab everybody appetizers (be sure to give them a shoutout). Of course, during these virtual times, having a Virtual Summer Social works too! Have attendees bring themselves drinks and snacks to their desks and start the relationship-building session. *Pro tip: preplan some ice breakers and questions to facilitate a successful social.
Now, check out the monthly happenings of some of our communities below!
Divi Cape Town in South Africa
From the Host, Dirk Tolken:
…We covered the exciting new features of DIVI Sticky Options. We even did a few advanced contained text scroll effects and the attendees were quite happy to also ask additional WordPress and DIVI related questions which we answered in a personal Q&A format.
If you’re a Divi user in the Cape Town, South Africa area, don’t hesitate to join this thriving meetup!
Divi Chicago, Illinois, United States
From the Hosts, Joan Margau & Scott Winterroth:
Peter Wilkinson the developer of Divi Machine plugin was our guest speaker. He gave a great demonstration of the premium Divi plugin and showed us how to add and edit dynamic content options using Divi and ACF. Peter will be giving more presentations about this versatile plugin and how it can provide a whole new experience for the visitor. Our next meetup is on Monday, Sep. 14 at 7:00pm. Virtual on Zoom, Show and Tell, bring your latest project or problem and let’s talk Divi.
Be sure to check out the upcoming Meetup events on Divi-Chicago Meetup.
Divi Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, USA
From the Host, Tommy Lee & Jube Dankworth:
Divi DFW’s roundtable event for August started off by covering Divi Presets with tips and tricks on how to use this new feature to keep styling on websites consistent and easy. Overall, one of the strengths of our Divi group is that we have a fantastic mix of professionals and novices, so that we’re always able to generate thoughtful discussion. Our membership has actually grown through our virtual event period, as we can now have Divi users across the country join our events. 34 people attended our latest virtual meeting, an all-time record.
Don’t be bashful and get involved with this group today!
Divi Washington DC, USA
From the Host, John Browning:
With 14 new members joining in August, Divi DC’s membership has continued to grow a good pace. Our last meeting was a fascinating discussion on the best plugins to use with Divi. Next month, our group will discuss how to make great footers using the Divi Theme Builder.
Divi DC just started but has been long in the making! Give the group a peek!
Divi Destin/30A in Florida, USA
From the Host, Joy Todd:
DIVI Destin | 30A Social August 26th at Rock ’n Taco’s on Okaloosa Island
As hurricane Laura churned up the Gulf of Mexico and dumped water on us, a few members of our group came out to Okaloosa Island Beach for our Divi / WordPress Meetup. The Meetup topic was “everything WordPress”, our top discussions were around Page Speed and ADA. We welcomed a new member Mercedes to the group. Mercedes recently moved to Fort Walton Beach from Austin. And, a big thank you shout out to Richard Thomas who has attended every Divi Meetup. Our next event will be an online Zoom discussion in September and then a workshop. We currently have 74 members.
If you’re a Divi user near Destin, Florida, be sure to join the group and get notified of their next event!
Divi Houston, Texas, USA
From the Host, Cynthia Jones:
During our August Divi Meetup we took a walk through the Divi Theme Builder’s global header to build a customizable responsive navigation layout. This is a relatively new feature we explored together while troubleshooting some of the functionality on mobile regarding the collapsible mobile navigation having top-level items to be clickable yet collapsible. This was a fun interactive Meetup and I look forward to more as we build out our Houston Divi Meetup project site sponsored by Astoundz.com using the many available features in the Divi Theme Builder to incorporate dynamic content.
Divi Houston just got running and their enthusiasm shows! Have you checked them out yet?
Divi Kolkata, India
From the Host, Rajesh Ravidas:
As per the demand of our group members our topic of July’s virtual meetup was “How to launch an E-Commerce Website with Divi”. Prabhat Kumar Singh showed the potential of WooCommerce and Rajesh went through a live demonstration of setting up WooCommerce and Divi for an ECommerce website and then answered the [participants’ questions]. It’s nice to see the interest and more people joining from the local community.
Divi Kolkata just got started and are super energized. Do check them out!
Divi Milano, Italy
From the Host, Francesco Cinque:
The community here is growing and we tend to communicate a lot.
It’s not located exclusively in Milan (Italy is very small), so I have people from some parts of the county. Some of them have participated [in] all the meetups, some are new.
Divi Milano is back and at it! Check this community out!
Divi Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
From the Hosts, Kimberly Huges & Tracy Champagne:
It was a group effort as we worked with a member who needed help with a CTA button. Using a template, she was finding it difficult to adjust the padding and spacing. We had “all hands on deck.”
The Milwaukee crew would love your presence if you’re in the area!
Divi Phoenix, Arizona, USA
From the Host, David Curtiss:
Divi Phoenix has been moving along this pandemic with two monthly virtual Q&A sessions. It’s been wonderful to see peeps come from all over the US to join the event. But, gosh, we sure miss feeling the presence of the community IRL! Soon. 🤞🏼🙏🏼
The Phoenix community is super active with two meetups per month! Be sure to join!
Divi Sacramento, California, USA
From the Host, Rosalinda Huck:
August’s Meetup gave group members the opportunity to share their current work and “talk shop”! We covered a variety of topics, including using the Extra plugin, the Divi Builder plugin, the use of sliders, and how to approach using Divi when you’re completely new to it. Next month, we’ll be discussing workflows in the Divi environment, and how to work optimally and efficiently with the features available in Divi.
Divi Sacramento would love for you to join in the fun!
Divi Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
From the Host, Dustin Olsen:
We had another great online meetup in August with a decent turnout from people from all over. We met people from Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and even Canada! We talked about the power of Divi Dynamic content feature and how that can transform how you build websites and even get more creative with a completely branded website on every single page. In September we are having our Divi Happiness Bar – you bring the questions, we’ve got the answers.
We’d love to have your presence at this meetup! Join today!
Divi Santa Cruz, California, USA
From the Host, Anthony Garcia:
We continue to have good online meetups via Zoom that are allowing people from other areas to easily attend, as well as our Santa Cruz locals. We’ve been keeping it light during this time, getting to know each other, and talking about whatever Divi related things come up. Some of the people there have lots of experience and some are new to Divi and WordPress and have lots of questions, so the veterans are there to help.
Did you know there was a Divi Meetup in the Santa Cruz area?? Join their group today!
Divi Satkhira, Bangladesh
From the Host, Delower Hossain:
Another crowded virtual meetup. The topic of the month was “How to Get Started with Divi”. Delower Hossain showed how any WordPress user can easily design a Website using [the] Divi theme. The session started with a friendly intro session and ended with QA and conclusion session.
Our August topic is “How to Maximize your Divi Layouts”.
Divi Satkhira just got up and running so be sure to join!
Divi Seattle, Washington, USA
From the Hosts, Bradon Garley & Shane Griffiths:
For August’s Meetup, we showed the Divi Seattle community how to take their web designs to the next level by improving [the] typography of their site. Topics included the importance of hierarchy using headings, font size, and font-weight; letter-spacing and line-height, white space, color, line length, and even responsive font sizing. We also included easy-to-use tools for generating dummy text, creating a typographic scale, and ensuring your font colors meet contrast requirements for accessibility. Each topic was taught on its own copy of our test page so attendees could see the improvement with each step made. Our community is growing and quickly becoming professionals in working with Divi and taking designs to the next level!
Be sure to check Divi Seattle’s community out!
Divi Tampa, Florida, USA
From the Host, Steve Willingham:
August 2020 Divi Meetup in Tampa…or Virtually Anywhere!
The Divi-Tampa August VIRTUAL Meetup was held on Wednesday, Aug 19 at 1 PM EDT. Eight Meetup members signed up to attend, and five actually attended. Bill from St. Pete, FL gave us a wonderful tour of his company’s new website that went live just today! Bill’s site, iSocrates.com, has the most pages of any website I’ve seen using Divi. Its integrations with their company’s customer data-centric information systems in the site’s members-only area is amazing. Carol was in Mexico and led an interesting discussion about the new Divi Presets feature. Elon was in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area joining the discussion from Texas. Overall, we had a very nice Divi meetup and all were looking forward to the next one in September!
Be sure to join Divi Tampa!
