Building an Effective Personal Brand with Phil Simon
If you’d like to watch just the interview, this video is for you. Phil Simon shares from his person experience of building an effective personal brand. Between being featured on The Harvard Business Review, CNN, Wired, NBC, CNBC, Inc. Magazine, BusinessWeek, Huffington Post, Quartz, The New York Times, Fox News, and many other sites he is obviously doing something right. See what he has to say on the subject.
One of the most asked questions in our support forums and on social media is: how do I stop the logo and menu section from shrinking when I scroll down the page? Thankfully, the fix is really simple and we show you how to do it in this video. No coding required.
Divi Plugin Highlight 02: Best Slider Plugins to Pair with Divi
Another frequently asked question is: what slider do you recommend for pairing with Divi?
The short answer is that it depends. It depends on whether you want or need something extremely quick and simple or something a bit more robust and powerful. In this Divi Plugin Highlight we highlight three plugins that range from extremely simple (and free) to robust (and premium).
Big thanks to those in the Divi Community who shared their plugin suggestions and example sites:
- David Blackmon and Sam Winter recommended Meta Slider. Sam provided this example site so everyone could see it in action on Divi.
- Cory Jenkins recommended Layer Slider and this example site.
- Andrew Palmer recommended Slider Revolution and this example site.
Production Notes
The new gear is here! Testing has commenced! Next episode (with Geno Quiroz) will be the last episode that uses the following list of software/gear:
- Scrivener for the scripts.
- Skype for the interviews.
- Ecamm Call Recorder for the interview recordings.
- Blue Yeti mic for my audio.
- Garage Band for recording and editing voice over.
- Quick Time for recording myself outside of Skype.
- Adobe After Effects CC 2015 for the motion graphics.
- Screenium for the Divi Quick Tip screencasting.
- Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 for editing.
- Blubrry PowerPress for podcasting from WordPress.
Starting with my recording this week with Andrew Palmer I will begin incorporating some of the new equipment. Which includes new mics, cameras, lighting, and more. The amount of new gear used this week really depends on how well setup and testing goes.
When I finally get everything set up the way I want, not only will I begin using it but that week’s production notes will include some behind the scenes videos to show you exactly what I’m using and how for each segment of the show.
As always, if you have any production related questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I’ll be happy to talk shop.

I’m glad I could share some information with you guys and I hope it helps our awesome community.
Not to be too picky but my name is Sam Winter not Sam Smith haha!
Great work as always though.
Sorry Sam!
Hello, thanks for this wonderful episode. bought the lifetime package few days ago even though i haven’t tried it just yet, am looking at running free courses with actionable workbooks in order to boost engagement, i wanted asking if its already a core feature of the DIVI theme and if its not could it be added in your next upgrade. likewise i can’t find any chat or direct support interface in the members area. thanks
Hey Malik,
Learning management is not a part of Divi. However, there are some great Learning Management System plugins available for WordPress that you can use with Divi.

Hope this helps.
Best,

Nathan, can you tell me who did the animations for your video podcasts ? They’re really good !
We got some starter templates off of Envato and altered them.
Is there not a tag or category for the podcast so I can see all the blog podcast posts?
Yeah, check out the Community category. They’re all there.
Nathan, great show! As the date gets closer to WordPress 4.4 (I know we are way off), but what about getting Scott Taylor (@wonderboymusic) as a guest host. I’ve been really impressed at the work he is doing leading the WP developers on 4.4. I know he does a fair amount of speaking at wordcamps and such. I think his perspective on where WP is going would be a great show.
That does sound interesting! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll put him on my list and see if we can figure something out.
Cyclone Slider 2
I’ll have to check that one out. Thanks for the tip.
Great show! I also thought the slider recommendations were helpful… I love learning more about which premium plugins work great with Divi and it’s great to see the application on Divi sites. I use Revolution Slider a lot but I might branch out and try one of your other recommendations.
Awesome!
Great podcast this week. Glad to see the quick tip is back and looking forward to seeing Geno next week.
Thanks Mark, we’ll keep the quick tips coming as often as possible. Any requests?
One thing you can notice in the video is that it can be a bit annoying to click and drag the circle when resizing an element. It would be great to also have a text box with a numeric value. That would make it easier to see the size of each element (rather than trying to estimate how far the circle is on the line) and it would be easier to change on the fly.
You’re not the only one to request this feature. I know the team is aware of it.
Superb informative interview, thanks Nathan and Phil! I’m energized and inspired!
Thanks Susan!
Hi there, thanks for the interview and the quick tip. I tried to fix my header using your suggestions and it’s still not working for me. The logo still goes small with the scroll. I don’t have my site ready yet so it’s not up to show you. Any other tips to fix this? Does the logo need to be a certain size?
Thanks!
Hey Marina, thanks! If the steps in the quick tip are not working then we might need to take a look at it. If you head over to our forum and make a ticket we can help you out with that.
Didn’t work for me either, you’re not alone Marina!
Thanks a lot, will do that!
If you haven’t already, I recommend the Divi quick tip about the header / logo fix be added to the documentation videos. Especially since it’s something you said has become one of the most-asked questions in the forum. It might save some time if the answer is in the main documentation.
Thanks for the tips! 🙂
In the meantime, you can always go to our YouTube page where we have all of our Quick Tips in their own playlist.
Good idea Sherry. I think the plan is for all of our quick tips to be resources that end up in either documentation or an easy to find reference list.
Hi Nathan,
Thanks for another good episode…the 45minute length is great!!
Keep up the good work!
Simon
Thanks Simon!
Thanks, Simon. Glad that you enjoyed it.
