One of the coolest things we’ve seen happen in the Divi Nation over the past few years is the deepening of relationships between community members. We’ve seen people go from active commenters on the blog, forum, or Facebook groups to becoming close friends and in many cases business partners; enriching each others’ lives even more at each new level. This kind of relational growth was on full display at WordCamp Orange County this year and so I decided to ask a few questions to those in attendance so that they could share in their own words what those experiences have meant to them.

In this special episode of Divi Nation we interview various members of the Divi Nation at WordCamp Orange County to talk about the importance (and the impact) of meeting the community in person. Each of these individuals has their own story of how these in-person, deep relationships has positively impacted their lives and businesses. Check it out!

As much as we here at Elegant Themes would love to meet each and every member of the community in person at an event we organized, the Divi Nation is WAY too big for that. And so we’d like to empower those of you who want to get together on your own to do so as part of our official Divi Meetup Group. Use the button below to go our meetup page and join. Follow the instructions below if you’d like to become an organizer in your area.

Becoming An Official Divi Nation Event Organizer

Taking our cue directly from the official WordPress Meetup criteria, here are the basic criteria for our local Divi Nation meetups:

  1. Divi Nation Meetups are for the benefit of the community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions taken as an event organizer should be done with the best interest of the community in mind.
  2. If you start a local Divi Nation Meetup, membership in that group must be open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status or any other criteria.
  3. Divi Nation Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers. In cases where a modest attendance fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and should not be used to pay speakers or organizers.
  4. Divi Nation Meetup groups must allow events to be organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community.
  5. Divi Nation Meetups should be welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.

If this sounds like the type of Divi Community you would like to help build, then you can apply to become a local Divi Nation event organizer by doing the following:

  1. Join our meetup page.
  2. Message me (Nathan B. Weller) through meetup to express your interest. Be sure to include your location, any experience you already have with organizing meetups, and of course a bit about your use of Divi.
  3. Follow the next steps sent to you in my reply message. I will check to make sure no one else in your immediate area has expressed interest in organizing a local Divi Nation Meetup (if so, I will connect you with them) and help get you started on your first event.

Easy as that!

See You Next Week!

Well that’s all for this week’s episode. Thanks again to everyone who attended WordCamp Orange County and who gave of their time to be interviewed. If you have any questions or thoughts on the video or our rollout of local Divi Nation Meetups, feel free to leave them in the comments section below!

  1. Looks like fun Nathan! I joined the meetup group and will be looking for meetups in my area. I’m also looking forward to meeting the gang at a WordCamp in the future. Cheers!

  2. I totally agree. I attended by first Wordcamp in Nashville this past fall, and it was simply amazing. I bought my tickets to Wordcamp US a couple of days ago, and I can’t wait for December to come around.

  3. Great production work on that video, Nathan! Love the music and transitions and how it all fits with the superhero theme from this year’s WCOC!

Thanks for all your hard work in content and community building. πŸ™‚

  4. Awesome work Nathan! i can’t wait to see these meetups happening all over the place and bigger groups landing on wordcamps.
