Landing pages are used by marketers to capture leads (i.e. email addresses) or as a click through so that traffic is funneled to another page (these are known as squeeze pages). They can also be used to sell a product directly.

In the world of internet marketing, landing pages can be considered to be separate from the website they are hosted. They rarely use the same design as the website that sits in the root of the domain; and there is no navigation menu that links the landing page to the website home page, and vice versa.

An alternative meaning for a landing page is a page that has been set up to sell a product or service. This type of landing page is used at the front end of a website to promote digital products such as eBooks, apps, membership websites, and courses.

There are a number of ways in which you can use WordPress to create a landing page. Let us take a closer look at what solutions are available to you.

* Note that theme solutions are listed first, with plugin solutions listed afterwards. At the end, I have listed some good landing page creation services that can be integrated into WordPress 🙂

Use a Landing Page Template

Many WordPress themes include a blank page template. You can use this to quickly add landing pages to your WordPress website. Alternatively, you can create a landing page template yourself from scratch.

In Divi, for example, the template is named “Blank Page”. This presents you with a blank canvas in which you can create your landing page.

Select Blank Page Template

Selecting the “Blank Page” Template in Divi.

Creating a landing page using the blank page template is simple. You can use the Divi page builder to add a call to action for your offer. You can also add text, dividers, testimonials, images, maps, and more.

Background colors can also be easily changed and your final layout can be saved so that you can use it again with other landing pages. Once you get to grips with how it works, you will be able to create unique landing pages in just a few minutes.

If your WordPress theme does not have a landing page template, you can always create one yourself. All you need to do is create a page template that does not display your header, sidebar, or footer. Check out my article “An Introduction To WordPress Page Templates” to see how you can create new page templates for your website.

  1. I love these landing page template, they are beautiful. Thanks!

  2. This is a great post! I am wondering … can you send subscribers to a specific thank you page using the Divi 2 landing pages … it does not have an optional url to direct them too after they opt-in. I know we can set this up inside of Aweber but if you want to use more than one landing page and thank you page for the same list with different campaigns … you don’t seem to be able to do this … is there a plug in that allows you to build a beautiful landing page inside Divi 2 then send them to a thank you page on you domain after they’ve opted in?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer this! 🙂

  3. leadpages.net is a little odd. They have lots of pages where they claim to offer free templates if you optin, but never deliver the templates – as far as I can tell. I tried 3 times and instead got training about an ethical bribe tutorial they claimed I signed up for. I would think that conversion specialists would have figured out that not providing what’s signed up for isn’t a great way to build trust.

  4. Just try Qards. It’s more easiest way to make a perfect landing page. It’s based on WordPress so you have all of those plugins for SEO optimization, sharing and other tools. It’s the really good platform to make it.

  5. Does Divi 2.0 integrate with Aweber, Mailchimp or Getresponse?

  6. This is really helpful. I recently ought Optimize Press but it is not compatible with Elegant Themes so I had to return it It might be useful for you to know that. It stopped the menu from working on mobiles. It appears to be a known problem as ET was listed on the Optimize Press website as incompatible.

    • Very helpful to know, Sarah! Thanks for posting this info. I had been hoping to use Divi with Optimize Press and wasn’t sure if it was compatible yet (she says hopefully).

  7. I really appreciate your post, great ! unbounce is the best for me, based on your brief explanation. But the price is too expensive. I need to explore again to find the best landing page theme for me. Thank you very much

  8. Hi guys,

I see that you listed OptimizePress – and have to agree that it’s a pretty cool landing page building tool.

However, a client of mine is using the Divi theme and OptimizePress and the two of them seem to be having compatibility issues which causes parts of the live editor of OptimizePress to fail.

Has anyone managed to resolve the Divi / OptimizePress issues?

    • I have exactly the same issues. I would LOVE to know if anyone finds an answer to this… I’m using Divi and have just switched from LeadPages to OptimizePress, I cannot get the LiveEditor to work and it’s driving me loopy!

  9. Great Post:

I know wordpress can gather emails, via contact forms, and put them into a database etc, but, When setting up these landing pages, which ones offer the ability to double-opt in, and then also a subsequent unsubscribe link?

And do any of them link straight to a mailing list or messaging system?

Or, do we need to link the sign up form to a 3rd party such as aweber, get response, mailchimp etc ?

  10. I was searching a helpful resource of creating a landing page with wordpress, and I landed here and really liked this post . I had created several static html landing page design but not wordpress.

  11. After trying out a great many landing pages to launch sites, my all-time favorite, and my go-to launch theme is http://launcheffectapp.com.

LaunchEffect is a free download and you can use it on multiple sites. The premium version is $35 for a single site and $65 for unlimited sites. I bought the premium version and it is the second best investment I’ve made in purchasing themes. ElegantThemes is still the best investment.

  12. Thanks, good post

  13. Another option without having to pay out extra for other landing page themes is to install WordPress in a sub folder or sub domain and install Divi, or use the Elegant Page Builder with any Elegant Themes Theme you choose.

  14. I am unable to access the Instabuilder website and I am unable to find it in a PlugIn search, is it still operational?

    • The Instabuilder link in this post is working now. Maybe the site was down temporarily.

  15. Kevin – Thanks SO much for this helpful list. You always seem to read my mind as to what WP-related tool I might need next! I was just thinking what to use to create a landing page – and then as if by magic, this was your next post! Now I have more choices for a landing page creator than I know what to do with (this is a good problem to have, trust me :)).

  16. Kevin,

Thanks for creating this resource and including Think Landing Pages.

  17. Wow, Kevin. That’s an almighty list you’ve put together. Very useful information as usual. Thank you for sharing.

  18. Thanks Kevin for a good summary of options!

Landing pages are definitely the way to go when you have a specific objective in mind, and it’s particularly important when running online advertising or marketing campaigns.

Just over a year ago I actually started my own business to help businesses create more leads through landing pages, and we swear to Unbounce. It is super flexible, rock solid and manages your A/B testing.

For our website we use Divi – and can’t praise it enough!

A high performing landing page usually consists of some key elements, and they all work together to reduce friction and gain trust, and ultimately get your conversion:

    – Headline stating your value proposition
    – Hero image to support your message
    – Benefits (not features)
    – A form that is easy to fill out
    – A clear call to action
    – Trust indicators

Patrick raised the point of A/B testing (also know as split testing).

You can create ‘the perfect’ landing page using the above as your blueprint, but not until you A/B test the messaging and various elements on the page will you know that you have a high performing landing page. In other words – getting a landing page is 50% of the job – A/B testing is the other 50%.

If you want more tips on how to increase conversion rates using landing pages – feel free to sign up for my free tips (no strings attached!):

The landing page is created with Unbounce and running an A/B test of course.

There are some good templates for Unbounce at Themeforst, and I have created one that you can find here http://hello.conversionlab.no/fork

  19. Great post kevin !!! Amazing list bust I likely most Divi Thanks to ET Team 🙂

  20. I am using DIVI to create landing pages and because of it Drag and Drop Feature its very easy to create the pages as well. But I didn’t even know that these many types of free plugins are available to create landing pages. Thanks for the info Kevin.

  21. Extensive list here Kevin…. and a few I hadn’t heard of…. My personal favourite is Divi. Have been recommending Divi to my clients and they love it.

    Cheers

    Sandy 🙂

  22. Convertible is NOT responsive, so how can you say it makes a great landing page???

    • If your landing page is receiving a lot of mobile traffic, you can use Divi to create your landing page instead.

      • Yeah I know Nick, I just don’t understand how anyone can recommend a non-responsive theme these days?

  23. Hey Guys,

I was hoping that with Divi I could design a page similar to Permatex.

One draw back with Divi is that we don’t have the ability to add fields to the contact form. Service orientated businesses need to be able to capture more fields than what is currently available in the contact form.

Name, email address and message aren’t enough fields for most businesses that want to use a contact form.

Can we please get the ability add fields to the contact form module. Two fields that I would need before I can use the Divi contact form are phone number and business name. It would be awesome if there was a way that we could click on a + to add a field and name it what we want.

I know that we can use plugins such as contact form 7, but they look horrible compared to the Divi built in contact form.

Hopefully the awesome team at Elegant Themes can come up with something that will allow us to do this.

    Cheers,

    Shane

    • Hi Shane, what I did was to use the WordPress plugin Contact Form 7 and style this using the CSS from the Divi theme which let me use all sorts of fields and have the beauty of Divi 🙂

    • Thumbs up for that post.

    • I agree! There also should be an ability to control fields listed for the “subscribe” form too!

    • +1! Maybe there should be another release of contact form module with some robust fields features for Divi 😀

Thank you Kevin , we are I glorious days and this premium tips will definitely help to achieve our online goals with WordPress.

  24. Thanks! Nice list…. I started skimming after Divi. 🙂 The others look good, though.

Another topic to consider in future blog is the construction of a landing page. What elements to include & not to include. Best place for call to action, colors & text that work best for submit buttons. Should you have a link to your main site or just sell one thing on one page? I know it varies based on item or service being sold, but I assume there are some basics that should be followed?

A divi landing page build and template would also be nice.

    Thanks!

  25. Thanks again for a great post, Kevin! I’ve used some great templates from HTML5up http://html5up.net/ , but that’s not WordPress. Since I’m stuck with Divi now, I’ll give it a try!

  26. Not only is this a great list of landing page resources, I found it to be a great list of landing page inspiration. Thanks again Kevin!

  27. A lot of choices but what I’m looking for is a plugin of some kind that would land visitors on our company’s logo where underneath you can either click French or English and be directed to the English or French version of our website. I plan to build the whole thing on the Divi theme. I would really appreciate the feedback on this. And as for the Instabuliedr pluggin that is a pretty amazing plugin for webmarketing.

  28. Great post Mr. Kevin, thanks!

Just few days ago I was asking which plugin to use for A/B testing (http://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/theme-releases/divi-2#comment-143822).

So, in the meantime I did my homework and I ended up with Divi 1 with Simple Page Tester plugin. Well, for now. I’m looking forward to use Divi 2… maybe with Optimizely?

Could you, or anyone from dear readers, share with us which plugin or service do you suggest to use, please?

  29. OptimizePress 2.0 support site lists Elegant Themes as incompatible with OP. Has this problem been solved?

    • Hi There!

      This is awesome. Thanks.

But, I had the same question as Emlev.

Has the OP 2.0 incompatibility been resolved?

  30. Great list, thanks for sharing.

    How about the new Rainmaker?

    Has anyone tried it?

    • The rainmaker platform seems to be awesome!
it has all the features for a complete media platform.
      it’s expensive tho!
      thanks for this list guys.

  31. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY I AM!!!!!!!!

    Go Divi Go

  32. I was thinking of trying wishpond to create a facebook contest for a client. Have you had any experience with it or know of anyone having success with it? I’d also like to hear from anyone else regarding this as well.

This list is awesome. There are a bunch of thing here, especially optimize press that strike my fancy. If there were only more hours in the day I might have time to mess around with it!

Thanks for another great resource, Kevin.

  33. Nice list of landing page resources.
